Peanut Butter

Did you realize that peanut butter is going up in price? I was checking out some preparedness blogs today and ran across this article from iPrepared. Apparently there was a smaller than usual peanut crop this year. I don't know about you, but PB & J's are a staple my kids. (Except for my son with peanut allergies. He stays far away from them.) But the other kids in my house eat them at least once a week.

According to an article on the Chicago Tribune, peanut butter prices are "skyrocketing"! They are going up by 40%! Now is the time to check your home store supply of peanut butter. Make sure you have enough to last you a while. Typically peanut butter lasts 9-12 months before it goes rancid. If your supply is low, you might want to head to the store today to purchase some at a lower price than it will be next week.

You need about 4 pounds of peanut butter per person in your family for a one year supply of food. If someone in your family has an allergy to peanuts, you can substitute it another type of oil in your food storage.
